We'll make this the official thread for suggestions and ideas about how to organize some events.
The main things that concern me right now are...
1. Scheduling: What might be the best way to get the majority of members and participants to meet up for an event given the fact that some of us will be in different countries, states, and time zones.
Should we maybe schedule some events for a couple of different times in a single day or week? What might be the optimum time for max participation? I know that for my Aussie friend who got me in this game... it's always tomorrow...lol. Yet he manages to make most of our games on clan night. Early morning/afternoon for him... 10pm at night for me...lol.
2. Communication: The in game voice is alright for me, when I'm not on some other communication system. However; it can be hard sometimes to invite some people into a group chat when you don't have them on your friends list. Sometimes their FL is full and you can't add em.
The clan I belong to uses GSC which is free and provides up to 100slots per channel (although the most I've seen on ours was about 20 or so). The only problem is a lot of people don't have it or have never heard of it. Providing we could get people to DL it, it works fine once you work out a few bugs and adjust things.
Most of us probably have Ventrilo and/or TS3 (I do), but most of us don't have a server... Not an option for me at the moment, but it may be in the future. I was still looking for a free option though.
There's also Steam and XFire. XFire sometimes lags me, and I've never tried to use Steam's voip in a non-Steam game (can you even do that?).
So there are two issues to be adessed. Anybody got any suggestions any alternatives? This is your place as well as mine?
I'm all ears...eyes.. something ;D

Well as far as events go the only thing we can really do is split it to hopefully accomodate the majority of timezones in say 12 hour increments... Myself, I have a couple hours in the afternoons to play but i'm mostly on in the overnight hours (AST) from 3am-6am cuz I work the late shift 7pm-3am. So I would likely be in the aussie timezone As far as comms go, I have an unlimited bandwidth upload and download connection, i'll look into setting up a server on my linux box so we can have a dedicated 24/7 server. I also have friends who host server space, they may be able to help me out too. I will likely go with Teamspeak and I think I have a non-profit license for it allready here somewhere which will allow 512 connection per virtual server and up to 10 virtual servers. Also gonna look into GSC, i've never heard of it before and like a cat i'm curious.

Go the Aussies, lol. Yeah, I guess it's just trial and error at this stage, untill we get more members, then we can slowly adjust to make things fit.
GSC is good because it's free. Teamspeak is my favourite at the moment, it's much easier to use and cleaner sound then both Vent and GSC. I might be able to get a small Teamspeak server as a freebie from the BC2 servers. I'll send em a mail pestering them, lol.
Otherwise I'm happy with GSC or whatever other freebies anyone can organise.

I like the in game voice. Which is really surprising for a F2P game. Until the voice thing is sorted out maybe we just use a few group chats or just the in game chat box?
Currently my schedule is not set. I'm on the West Coast. But if I say I'll be at an event I'll usually be there.

Oh hey, I think I got an Idea.
How about an ongoing event. A round robin or table elminination style competition.
Races will be drawn from a hat and the race organised by the 2 racers and run. Maybe a best of 3 for the individual races.
We'll keep a thread of the competition and as and race gets run the participants post in the thread so we can update the table.
Something like that.

Maybe a best of 3 for the individual races. We'll keep a thread of the competition and as and race gets run the participants post in the thread so we can update the table. Something like that. I was thinking of something along those lines myself, just to get the ball rolling and to see how difficult it will be to arrange. Something like this would allow us to get a few bugs worked out before we try to move on to a more complex meet. I think the competition should be tier set though. In other words, draw names for each tier. The reason being... some people only have T-1 and T-3 muscle (me lol), and it wouldn't be fair to run my Ford GT against any T-1 muscle. Some people of course... have all 3 or just 1 of the tier cars. We could also have a less complex, yet somewhat challenging track for T-1 cars (maybe Clubhouse and Hollis or Diamond and Union). T-2 might try Skyline Ave or a similar track. T-3 could be a toss-up... Some of the higher level players might have suggestions on this. Maybe something to wind it out on (like Stadium and Hwy 99) and something to frustrate the hell out of em like Hastings or West Park and Lyons. If somebody wants to suggest a higher level track it would then be up to invite a lower level player they are drawn to race... to that track. Anyway... that can all be worked out and tweaked. It's better to get those small bugs worked out before we get too many people in here and we end up in a giant CF One thing I'll start on today... is getting a stat sheet set up on Google docs, working from info posted in a thread I'll open shortly. It will just be a list of Drivers-Cars (tiers and stats)-Player level. That's what will be used for each draw (draw by tiers). Then I can make a thread to collect the data from the results, and make a bracket type chart for the event. We should probably have a set time limit to register for the event ( say a week?) and two weeks (after registration is over) for each driver to complete all the tiers he/she chooses to compete in. What ya'll think of that idea for a start? ETA: I found this nifty name drawing generator which could come in handy, The person who draws the names could screen-shot the results. austindavid.com/flotsam/hat.php

Alright, A bit more on the idea. I think your right there Tommy, the tracks also have to be decided upon. I got an idea for an ongoing Ladder competition for each car on the muscle car list.
So there will be an Ongoing Club ladder for each car in the club. As you compete you can advance up or down the ladder as your races require.
As for how the ladder will Work. I think:
Anyone within 2 Levels on the ladder can challenge anyone else, and the request should not be denied. WITHIN REASON.
If anyone not within 2 levels wants to challenge anyone else above or below, that can be agreed on between parties. Some level of Agreement will need to be decided upon, meaning, you can't just plin refuse everyone not within 2 ranges, but you shouldn't have to accept every race someone challenges you too. Maybe something like every driver must compete in 2 drives above their level and below thei level each week, or something like that.
Anyways, thats just another draft idea.

Another idea for an event. True Stock car races. You would need a spare driver or 30k and a car slot to join, or make a new account. Everyone gets a stock Charger, no mods and we have a race day, or week.

Okay, I did tinker with this a little last night. Seems that "FreeWebs" is not PhP friendly, so I have to search for a free PhP friendly web site. Haven't decided what I am going to do with my old site yet. This does not have a steep a learning curve for me, it is more like a vertical line!

That would be awesome... especially if we could stretch the time of the event out to a couple of hours so that different time zones would have a chance to participate.
We have a 10 slot TS3 room for right now (would expand if we could get more people in), where key people could coordinate various groups of members. If we ever expand the TS we could all jump on there as well and use the groups for mass race invites.
I also saw where Jussi and his crew did a cruise from track to track and jumped in the old fashion way. I'll see if I can't locate that thread on the official forum or contact Jussi for more info.
The idea sounds good though, and some routine participation can only spark things up a bit. The limits of the group chat (8 people) and the friends list (100 friends) have been the only stumbling blocks I've seen so far.
