...The day the Freebird went down. I was in 11th grade at a private school in Jacksonville Fl., when it happened. Skynyrd were the local boys who made it big. The band was in its prime when their plane went down in a Mississippi swamp, killing singer/songwriter Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist/vocalist Steve Gaines, vocalist Cassie Gaines. I was guitar player in a garage band (later to briefly be a bar band), and like a lot of bands back then (especially in JVille) having several Skynyrd covers mixed in with the Sabbath and KISS covers was practically mandatory. I like all types of music (meh maybe not rap so much), but my roots go back to these guys. R.I.P. Ronnie, Steve and Cassie. www.check-six.com/Crash_Sites/LynyrdSkynyrd-N55VM.htm
